5 Sounds You Shouldn’t Hear From Your AC
Air conditioning units, especially central AC systems, will make sounds from time to time. While some sounds are normal, such as the clicking you hear when the AC turns on and off, others signal a problem with the unit. Below are a few sounds that you don’t want to hear coming from your AC.
1. Rattling and Banging in Your AC
These both indicate a loose or broken part. It could be loose wiring or loose nuts and bolts. Banging shows that the problem is growing worse. The sounds could also point to failing motor bearings. Another possible cause of rattling is the presence of debris, such as leaves and twigs, in the system.
2. Grinding
In a worn-out compressor, the pistons may start to grind against each other. This is one of the most ominous sounds, so you would want to get professional help immediately. 3. Buzzing and Continual Clicking

4. Continual Squealing
A squealing sound upon start-up is not out of the ordinary. However, continual squealing may mean that either the indoor blower motor or outdoor fan motor is going bad. Motor bearings and blower motor belts that wear down can also produce a squealing or screeching sound.
5. Hissing
This almost always signifies a refrigerant leak: another issue that requires immediate attention.
